Welton Williams III ’22 chose Shenandoah University to stay close to home, but it was far enough away to feel a sense of independence. One of Williams’ fondest memories was walking across the stage at commencement to receive his degree.
William is a second grade teacher at Bensley Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia. In his position, he has a classroom of 16 students, who he provides the knowledge and skills to, to have a successful school year.
Williams’ most rewarding moment of his career so far was appearing on NBC12’s Act of Kindness segment. “My former 5th grade teacher nominated me because she said I always had the patience and empathy to work with children. I felt honored to have been given the opportunity to be one of the people to receive the Acts of Kindness,” said Williams.
Williams believes Shenandoah prepared him for his career by providing him with student teaching experiences that gave him the opportunity to witness real-life situations in the classroom setting.
Williams’ advice to current and future students is: “When senior year comes, start looking for jobs so you are prepared when graduation comes around the corner.”
